This Thursday, April 14 : Potluck & Greenhouse Tour at the IGI Farm Hub at Thimble
Take a tour of the Island Grown Farm Hub greenhouse at Thimble and enjoy a Slow Food community potluck. Hub Farm manager Keith Wilda will lead a 30-minute tour around the 31,000-square-foot greenhouse, talking about the hydroponics and aquaponics systems used to grow food year-round. He will talk about the community-supported agricultural (CSA) pickup and new off-season market also at the site. The hub’s year-round production includes salad greens, microgreens, fresh herbs, and pea shoots among other food. The Farm Hub also serves as an education resource site for farmers and growers, offering workshops and trainings, a community garden and an orchard.
Doors open at 5:30 – Greenhouse Tour at 6pm Potluck at 6:30pm
The event is free and open to the public as well as Slow Food members and supporters. Bring a dish to share for 6, and your own place setting as this is a Slow Food Zero-Waste event. (place settings for rent @ $2) Enjoy a freshly picked salad from the greenhouse as part of the dinner. The annual Leadership Board elections will follow the potluck.
Slow Food Martha’s Vineyard is now in it’s 11th year of service to the island, helping to promote Vineyard food and farms, and gathering around the local table.
Directions to the Farm Hub at Thimble
From the Vineyard Haven-Edgartown road, turn into Head of the Pond road (look for the Island Alpaca farm sign, not far from the roundabout) Follow the road (w/speed bumps) for 1/2 mile. Bear left at the Hub Farm sign. Park in the lots outside the greenhouse
